Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light
Lead Prince Marth and his allies in a tactical battle to reclaim the kingdom of Altea and defeat the shadow dragon Medeus.
Game Description
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is the legendary tactical RPG that launched the long-running Fire Emblem series. Originally released in 1990 for the Famicom (NES), this game introduces players to Prince Marth—one of Nintendo’s most iconic strategy heroes—on his journey to save his homeland from dark forces.
The gameplay features grid-based, turn-based combat, where players must move units across a map, engage in strategic battles, and manage limited resources. Every character has distinct stats, classes, and weapons, and once a unit falls in battle, it’s gone for good—introducing the series’ trademark permanent death mechanic that adds emotional weight to each move.
Throughout the campaign, Marth gathers a growing army of knights, mages, archers, and more, each with their own background and personality. The narrative unfolds across 25 chapters as you liberate towns, defeat enemy generals, and eventually confront the dark dragon Medeus himself.
While the original Famicom version remained Japan-exclusive for decades, Nintendo finally released an official English localization in 2020 on the Nintendo Switch to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary. This edition includes optional rewind features, save states, and enhanced menus to make the classic experience more accessible to modern audiences.
With its rich lore, tactical depth, and lasting legacy, Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is a must-play for strategy fans and Fire Emblem enthusiasts looking to experience the roots of the series.
